Poker, Sex, and Stereotypes for Actionable Negotiation Techniques
Listen to the link below on the NPR story, "How Poker Player Annie Duke Used Gender Stereotypes To Win Matches." It is a fascinating piece with a great deal of useful information.
An interview with female poker player Annie Duke is tied to social science research on stereotypes and how we deal with them -- both from the point of view of the person being stereotyped, and from the point of view of the people who are doing the stereotyping. And that leads to valuable LESSONS that can be used in business or any other pursuit.
It turns out that there are distinct patterns, and that these patterns can be USED to the ADVANTAGE of the person being stereotyped. This can apply to anyone who is being stereotyped according to any attribute -- like race, religion, gender, clothing, hair color, appearance, height, or weight.
If you find yourself being stereotyped, you can USE these techniques to your advantage. Annie Duke did, and she won a World Series of Poker championship over very talented opponents who literally tripped over their own prejudices.
If you are a person who is prone to stereotyping others, as you will hear in this piece, you do so at your own peril if your "opponent" knows the principles discussed here.
Valuable lessons and useful techniques.
